From which main thesis shall we proceed with this book?
The following: various ideas, various possibilities that have occurred to me, to set them out individually and as precisely as possible. They can then accordingly serve as a kind of leitmotif. In my opinion, it would make no sense for us to try to trivialize the matter; nor does it make sense to exaggerate the matter itself and say what the opponent wants to hear. Is there a middle way that would also serve the truth at the same time?
After all, what ultimately matters to us is to examine the truth and, insofar as the … of the objective—after all, what ultimately matters to us is to examine the truth, to investigate the truth. I think one possibility would be to portray the German people before and during the war as a people that, barely fifty years earlier, with a difference in time… had achieved its unity through Bismark. In the First World War it saw all the opposing forces united against it; through the unspeakable hardship after the First World War—the Jews were undoubtedly the beneficiaries of the German people's hardship.
One need only recall the mortgage affairs and the evictions of farmers in the north of the country: slowly but surely, a campaign of annihilation of the lower and upper middle classes, all of whom became victims of Jewish interest policy. The reason why the question of interest in particular met with such a wide response in the NSDAP (National Socialist German Workers' Party) program. That precisely in the period after the First World War there was a regression in political and economic terms, through which many of the efforts toward unity established with so much trouble through Bismark were largely undone again…
That this people, after the seizure of power in '33, had one foot on the path toward the development of a … realization of the national program, but the other foot on the warpath. That, through the course of the war, this people was suddenly called on across the board to undertake leadership tasks for which it lacked experience, and also that body of experience which gradually crystallizes into a certain technique, which does not have to be learned, which cannot be learned in crash courses either, but is the result and accumulation of many generations, of the bitter experiences of generations.
The German people, then, without this body of experience, was confronted with a leadership task for which experience and strength were utterly lacking. As German influence spread over the whole of Europe through the course of the war, and Jewish legislation had been proclaimed in Germany itself since 1936, there were still so many disturbing gaps in the practical implementation of that legislation. On the other hand, in the modern Reich that the Third Reich was, a problem now had to be solved with due regard for laws and regulations, and also for a certain distribution of power within the state.
All this led to great difficulties within Germany itself. Even Germany's efforts to solve the Jewish problem within Germany through emigration, with the involvement of foreign countries, remained without really tangible results. In such a way that one can say that, looking back, it becomes very clear that the foreign countries which later became enemy countries had from the outset kept this whole Jewish question as a weapon in reserve, and sought by every means to prevent this
